Minecraft LIVE took place on 26 September 2026 at 1 PM ET. The announcements did not arrive as one stable update. The official recap revealed Ice Caves, a frozen zombie and the Sift, while later official notes show that some of the ice content has moved into Java and Bedrock testing channels.
The practical distinction is simple: a reveal explains what Mojang plans, a snapshot or Preview makes work-in-progress features available for testing, and a stable changelog confirms release to the corresponding main edition.
Ice Caves have entered testing, not stable Minecraft
The recap introduced an underground Ice Cave biome made mainly from ice and calcite. It described hanging icicles, ice crystals that grow from the ground and a frozen zombie variant.
Official testing information has moved on since the event. Mojang’s Drop 4 of 2026 testing page lists ice features in Bedrock Preview testing and includes a Java test entry from 6 October. The exact Java 26.4 Snapshot 3 notes use the name Frostbite for the frozen zombie.
That still does not make Ice Caves or Frostbites stable features. Snapshots and Previews are work-in-progress channels, and their content can change. Players who choose to test them should follow Mojang’s testing guidance and keep important worlds separate or backed up.
The Sift is planned for 2027
Mojang also announced that the Sift, a dimension featured in Minecraft Dungeons II, is planned for Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. The recap described it as Minecraft’s fourth dimension, alongside the Overworld, Nether and End.
The announcement did not provide a Minecraft version or a public testing date for the Sift. Its appearance in Minecraft Dungeons II does not make it playable in the main Minecraft game.
What to check next
Use the source type to understand the current status:
- A LIVE recap records the announcement and Mojang’s plans at the time of the event.
- A Java snapshot or Bedrock Preview note describes a testing build, not a stable release.
- A stable release changelog confirms that a feature has reached the corresponding main edition.
Ice Caves and Frostbites are now more than reveal-only concepts because official test builds include them. They are not confirmed as stable Java or Bedrock features. The Sift remains a 2027 plan without an announced test build or stable release date.
