Well, it's more than just killing players, it's a variety of stats. The extra points for being in PvP is an incentive for players to have their state toggled, for those who enjoy hunting. However, a lot of players really don't like having to worry about being killed, and don't want others to get their head, so they should be able to play in peace as well.

I think atleast give 24/7 pvp a try on the new server at the start ; as the majority of the current players have never experienced it and think that they will always be hunted down when truthfully told it will never be as such. people are just scared of change and after the world became PVE orientated the majority of the pvpers left leaving the people who play pve which has the majority votes in these situations. there are also ingame solutions to being hunted that people could use aka invis potions.

but what i gathered was the main reason for the reset is that the player activity has severely decreased and you would like to try and increase it again but by basically making it the 3rd world (without plots) again there will be no difference made .

I second that. People fear being hunted, change, and everything in between, but how would they know what to fear if they hadn't experienced it?
Truth be told, on many large servers with pvp, you are hunted down quite a bit, but this server is small, and no one would have the time or patience to hunt some fledgling player down... Maybe once every few hours, someone might come along, but most people don't play that long.

The first world catered to these people who didn't fear these things, and that was the golden age for the server. Thinking that, just because the current community thinks that they won't like pvp, there will be even less activity is wrong, in my opinion. Pvp will bring back old players from the past, and revitalize appeal to the pvp community, which is larger, as it seems, than the pve community.

Of course, this is your server, and I can only suggest change, not implementation.

One other option that's been discussed among staff is that we have everyone start out in pvp, and have the ability to toggle be purchasable via coins. That way if someone really really doesn't want to worry about pvp they have that option.

But yes, my preference is to have it set PvP all the time, but I also want to make the server as enjoyable as possible.

There's more to it than just the plots: resetting the economy, generating a new world with 1.10 and 1.11 features (currently world only has 1.9 and 1.10 on the edges), stuff like that. Another reason is because since we can't sell things such as sethomes, etc for real money, I want to start moving as much as i can over to the coin shop to increase votes and hopefully draw in more players, who in turn will donate more for the things they can donate for.

the idea of buying the ability of pve would make it somewhat more even as people who want to play on new world in pve have to help towards getting the server noticed and less depending on staff to keep them safe by giving them an easy ticket out of pvp , also i remember that on the original server that new players got starter immunity which i think should be used to atleast give people a chance to set themselves up before the chance of being ambushed

Edit : but about the coins i would find it unfair if players who saved saved up coins on the previous world or only have to vote once or twice get immunity i think that it should be a prestigious reward and shouldnt be easily achievable

if pvp is so popular then why don't they pvp each other? because it isn't about pvp it is about head hunting. Ive watched it happen i play all different times and head hunters and griefers always make things difficult on the new people. check the top sites pvp is only a small part of the whole mini games and fractions seems the draw. The one thing that has kept me coming back is friendship the feeling of belonging to a group who enjoy the interaction of helping, building, auctioning , mentoring, A hey there when they enter the game a goodbye when they leave. Many friendships have started here on spacebug that is what should be striven for helpers- helping people thrive and succeed. A city with stores and community within a community within a world. everyone who plays has their own definition of success. ie. a great base, a rail from east to west a exp farm extraordinaire. an great farm, a sky-villa with elytra points maybe just a peaceful little town to share with friend around the world. Think bigger than the rest think Family and Friends.

What you say is mostly true: having pvp toggled is mostly for people to head hunt. It's also true that some players are jerks about it to new players.

However, as you pointed out factions is a big draw on most of the big hub servers and (correct me if I'm wrong, i've never actually played on a factions server) part of the competition between factions is player kills.

The rest of what you said is completely 100% attainable regardless of setting. I don't think you were around in the first version of this server, but there wasn't the ability to toggle and there were a lot more players and the community I would say was arguably better.

I'm currently in the middle of writing a plugin that will better manage some pvp such as new player protection and pvp protection after teleport (the plugins we have currently don't do a very good job, or don't play well with each other, so this plugin will have the final say in those events)

Another pro for having pvp enabled all the time is that the people who are doing the head hunting/trolling right now can do it with pretty much impunity. Most of the time they aren't that good of pvpers, but since no one else is in pvp they don't really have to worry about getting killed. If everyone is in pvp, it's a strong likelihood that the pests will actually bother people less, because they risk getting killed themselves.

Also, with pvp enabled all the time, it can help with griefing, as people run the risk of the person they are griefing retaliating and killing them.

If we go with this option, it will be something that's more expensive. It won't be just a few votes.

So you guys keep saying that the newer player haven't experienced pvp. this isn't the only server out there, a lot of us have tried the other servers. we love that you can pve or pvp on this, its a server for everyone. we all know the risk of going to the nether or end, but you don't have to go there if you don't want to, and even if you do want something you can always buy it off another player.

Everyone keeps bringing up the good old days of the first world, that was what 4 years ago? yes you would have had a lot high player base this game was at its peak back then. a lot more people played back then. i would love the server to have 80 people online all the time. but i really don't think that just going pvp is going to fix it.

The main reason the server is in the state its in. After the last reset our numbers jumped a lot, there was a few people that trolled and harassed a lot of the new players. it kept happening so they all left. A lot of the trolls are gone now.

I would like this server to remain a place for everyone and keep pvp toggled.

the point we were making isnt about if a player has ever experienced pvp or not its that people think that by having pvp always on on spacebugs that their life will be soo much harder and that they will constantly have to watch their back , when infact it wasn't like that ; you were still able to work on your build without being killed but it was seldom that you may have to ward of an oncoming attacker to defend your land and yourself

after the resets the numbers always increase but shortly after they die off again , on the first world amount of players never had a point where people stopped playing untill 2nd world

i don't think that's gonna work, the way people are with the new players. they get hunted down right away for their heads. the people that don't like pvp wont stay if they get hunted right away. I know someone is gonna say "your not gonna get hunted down that much" but what seen with even the toggle yes you will. they try and trick them into pvp or the nether or end.

i dont know really why i keep doing this. looks like the decision is alrdy made.

I hate it that pvp is enabled! I just want to toggle it when ever i want to. For new players this will be a must too.. People won't play long if they have to buy it or whatever..

I would rather there be pvp on 24/7 just because i like not knowing whats going to happen when you're mining building etc. i think it would be really cool. and if you lose your stuff deal with it you can always get new stuff it's not that hard but everyone thinks it is when really it's not. i guess what i'm trying to say is that getting new stuff such as armor and weapons isn't hard and a little bit of pvp is always fun. 😉
